ALP Mermaid Beach candidate Gary Pead has filed a statutory declaration with police alleging Mr Stevens yelled at a Palmer United Party booth worker on January 21 and used “verbally threatening language”.

“If that goes on Utube (sic) I will come and get you, you will be hearing from me, that better not go on Utube (sic), you’ll be hearing from me,” the declaration said.

Mr Pead made the report at Broadbeach Police station earlier this week. In the declaration, Mr Pead alleges when he tried to intervene, Mr Stevens made an “aggressive body charge” and said “what f****** business is it of yours?”

Mr Stevens last night said the accusations were “politicking at its worst”.

“I have not been anywhere near the guy and we have spoken politely when he has shared my gazebo to protect from the sun,” he said.

“This is just a stupid attempt again for media attention.”

Police were last night unable to confirm if the report had been filed.

Mr Pead told the Bulletin he would not press charges against Mr Stevens.

“I made a statutory declaration about the circumstances around the incident which would accompany a police report,” he said.

“I will not be filing any formal charges of assault at this stage but the incident just needed to be reported.”

The incident allegedly occurred on the day a video of Mr Stevens confronting a journalist at the same polling booth went viral.

The video showed Mr Stevens dancing like a chicken and swatting the journalist away after refusing to answer questions about his connection to a $100 million plan to build a cableway in the Gold Coast Hinterland.
