ASF Consortium has put out a statement urging all elected Queensland representatives to weigh up the reputation of Queensland and Australia for a cruise ship terminal.
They have said the Gold Coast alone will not just cash in on foreign investment following what has been an international public tender for delivery of new major tourism infrastructure.
The group says the project, if given the green light, will bring more than 15,000 permanent jobs to the Gold Coast upon completion, 5000 construction jobs sustained during the 10 years of construction, $21 billion in economic impact and more than seven times the current rate of annual Queensland tourism revenue.
These benefits would be delivered through one project alone and at no cost and no risk to the Queensland Government or Gold Coast City Council, ASF said.
But if the Government were to discontinue the current assessment process underway, not only will these benefits be lost, but it will create high levels of uncertainty for foreign investors who currently see Queensland and Australia as politically and economically stable, they said.
Local Project Director Tim Poole said ASF Consortium comprised investment powerhouses from China and the USA and had spent many millions of dollars developing the proposal, building project partnerships, consulting with the community and creating complex and detailed project designs for this particular location after being invited by the previous Government.
