Popular Australian fashion brand Lorna Jane opens third Townsville store at Castletown

After shuttering their store in Castletown Shopping Centre during the pandemic, a popular Australian activewear brand has made a welcome return. Find out more.

To satisfy North Queenslanders’ strong demand for active wear, one of Australia’s leading fashion brands is expanding its footprint in the region by opening its third Townsville store.

Lorna Jane is an athletic apparel retailer founded in 1990 by Lorna Jane Clarkson and her husband Bill Clarkson.

The brand emerged after Ms Clarkson - then a fitness instructor - grew frustrated with the lacklustre workout apparel available at the time.

She took a pair of scissors to her favourite swimsuit and began creating the first active designs that have gone on to capture the attention of women across Australia, where 98 stores now operate.

Lorna Jane regional leader Prue Arnott was excited to reopen their store in Castletown Shopping Centre – opposite The Carvery – after it had been shuttered during the pandemic.

“Lorna Jane essentially empowers women to wear activewear and clothing to feel comfortable,” Mrs Arnott said.

“We have great success empowering women up in Townsville. Women love the product, and it made sense to reopen back in Castletown.

“There was a good opening … there was a lot of excitement within the community … and I think the store itself is in a great position within the mall.”

After a great first week of trading and plenty of positive feedback, Mrs Arnott was looking forward to seeing how things went for the store during the school holidays and back end of the year.

Centre manager for Castletown Shopping Centre Kathy Langsford welcomed the store, which reinforced their commitment to providing a variety of options for Townsville’s fashion scene.

“We are delighted to welcome Lorna Jane back to Castletown. Their dedication to promoting health and wellness aligns perfectly with the values of our shopping centre,” Ms Langsford said.

“With the store’s ideal location near Forever New, we’re confident that it will become a popular destination for Townsville shoppers.”
