An LNP voter has confronted Opposition leader David Crisafulli and his Gaven candidate Bianca Stone about her fears of cuts to health and education in a shock start to campaigning.
Vicki Campbell from Highland Park grilled Mr Crisafulli - who had earlier been grilling a BBQ at the William Duncan Primary School booth - just after voting began at 8am as she was leaving the booth.
She asked Ms Stone where she had been on the campaign.
Ms Stone replied that she had been out and about, and even visited the homeless at a nearby creek.
“Not at our place. And you (pointing to Mr Crisafulli) how are you going to handle the health system,” Ms Campbell said
“By making sure it’s properly resourced,” Mr Crisafulli said.
It sparked a lively debate across several minutes where the Opposition leader was tested on his policies and delivering them.
Ms Campbell: “Are you going to sack anyone else like Campbell Newman did”?
Mr Crisafulli: “We’ve spoken about that, it was a mistake.”
Ms Campbell: “It was a mistake, but will you make any more?”
Mr Crisafulli: “We will have more people.”
Ms Campbell: “More. Is that a promise or going to be a broken promise?
Mr Crisafulli: “No we have mapped out our strategy. We have mapped out our plan. I can assure we won’t have ambulance ramping at 45 per cent.”
LNP minders appeared convinced Ms Campbell was a Labor supporter.
But when interviewed later by the Bulletin she revealed her political colours were liberal. Her sole concern was raising health and education funding.
“It won’t take overnight to arrange the funding for that,” she said.
“I haven’t seen the LNP candidate out, either door knocking or at Nerang.
“I’ve only seen her on a poster. Meaghan (Scanlon) is committed and consistent. She’s out there with the general public.
“I’m a Liberal voter by the way. I’m not a Labor voter.”
