At least half the of the Gold Coast’s LNP MPs will sit around the Queensland Cabinet table in the city’s largest-ever representation at the top of state politics.

Broadwater MP and new Premier David Crisafulli is set to name several of his fellow Gold Coast colleagues as Ministers, some for the first time and others again having held positions in the former Newman Government.

Mr Crisafulli is also expected to be the Tourism Minister, as he flagged during the campaign last week. He was the tourism shadow there Opposition leader.

“Those people who are Shadow ministers now will be ministers next week and the message I wanted to give people on the Coast is this city has been very loyal to my side of politics and I would love the opportunity to return the favour,” he said.

“I did (tourism) as Shadow minister because I wanted to send a message about how important it is, and I think it’s important that people see that I did that.”

Party insiders say Currumbin MP Laura Gerber is a certainty to be the Youth Justice Minister. She was the Opposition spokeswoman for youth justice and victim support driving the LNP’s campaign on the crime crisis.

Mudgeeraba MP Ros Bates, who was a Minister in the Newman Government, is tipped to be the health minister.

She has created the LNP’s plan for reform to reduce ambulance ramping.

Bonney MP Sam O’Connor, who has been the environment spokeswoman, is expected to be in the ministry and appointed Environment Minister.

John-Paul Langbroek in Surfers Paradise, a former minister and party leader, making him one of the LNP’s most experienced MPs, is tipped to be Sports and Racing Minister.

New Burleigh MP Hermann Vorster is the wildcard.

His relentless campaigning in Burleigh has made it a safe seat.

He could get an early promotion for his hard work by gaining an outer ministry.

Most LNP observers believe he will be promoted early on in the government.

Mr Crisafulli said he intends to create a tourism subcommittee to assist him in developing a stronger industry.

“I want to make sure that the Minister for Aboriginal and Strait Islanders the Minister for Transport of Main Roads, the Minister for Local Government sits around that (and) with the Minister for Tourism and the Minister for Environment will drive those new opportunities I’m talking about,” he said.

“That’s how serious I view it. I want senior ministers driving tourism agenda for the state.”
