A $108 million new marine maintenance facility will make the northern Gold Coast the Southern Hemisphere’s superyacht hub, LNP leader Deb Frecklington has claimed.

The Opposition leader announced the facility as a co-investment with the Gold Coast City Marina and Shipyard, should the LNP be elected at the October 31 poll.

Ms Frecklington said she would tip in $20 million to help boost the city’s manufacturing industry.

“The investment is part of our plan to support manufacturing jobs and includes a no-new-tax guarantee, 20 per cent lower energy costs and a commitment to transition 100 per cent government manufacturing and procurement to Queensland companies,” she said.

“This new precinct will provide additional capabilities such as 1200-tonne capacity lift, which will cater for vessels up to 75 metres in length.

“The yard will be able to design, build and maintain superyachts and allow vessel-refit works for project values of up to $20 million.”

In a jobs creation play this month, the State and Federal governments jointly announced a seven-figure injection to dramatically expand the Coomera TAFE campus to keep pace with the marine trades industry.
