Police investigating crumpled Holden Commodore abandoned in Darwin City

Windscreen smashed, airbags blown and a wheel missing, the sight of mangled Holden Commodore greeted commuters heading into Darwin City on Monday morning.

Windscreen smashed, airbags blown and a wheel missing, the sight of mangled Holden Commodore greeted commuters heading into Darwin City this morning.

At about 2.15am on Monday morning, police received reports of a single-vehicle car crash at the intersection between Dinah Beach Rd, Tiger Brennan Dr, and Garramilla Blvd.

When emergency services arrived on the scene, the car was found to have been abandoned.

Blocking Tiger Brennan Drive, authorities removed the crumpled heap to a nearby traffic island, where it faced the oncoming early birds heading into work.

On site, the carnage included a knocked over a street-light, and car debris strewn across the garden bed.

Tyre marks spanned about 50m along the kerbside and garden bed.

The circumstances behind the crash remain under investigation, police said.
