Jarrod Bleijie confirmed an agreement has been made between the Queensland and federal governments over funding for Brisbane Arena.

The Queensland and federal governments reached a new agreement over the use of $2.5bn of federal funding originally allocated to Brisbane Arena – and now readers are having their say.

State Infrastructure Minister Jarrod Bleijie announced the intergovernmental agreement at his 2032 Delivery Plan update this week.

As revealed by The Courier-Mail, $1.2bn of $3.435bn federal funding will be allocated to the new stadium at Victoria Park, while another $584m will be held in reserve to be allocated to the main stadium or minor venues.

The other funding will be directed to minor venues under a 50-50 split with the state.

Mr Bleijie also announced site investigations for the new main stadium, including environmental studies, geotechnical assessments, engagement and cultural heritage assessments would begin at Victoria Park.

Was at Dutton park yesterday. Previous time about a year, and almost daily for a few years before that. CRR progress is absolutely glacial. This stadium build cannot take that long.

Queensland Rail can’t be relied on to install a traffic light let alone have shared responsibility for a series of major projects like this. Breaking up QR and ensuring that infrastructure delivery is returned to functional government departments and that QR’s dysfunctional workplace culture does not affect the Olympic delivery program is a pre-requisite for success here.

Brilliant concept. Just move the tennis to this area as well. Not dissimilar to the sporting precinct surrounding the MCG in Melbourne. World class - a far cry from giggles proposal.

Indeed, and may be done at a fraction of the cost of the ‘Broken Election Promise’ new stadium .....by simply expanding the 20,000 seat rebuild of the Ekka Stadium to a 3 level 60,000 seat .... and saves $100s Millions Dollars with a superb new Ekka Train Station already right next door.

The RNA Main Arena is on an even more constrained site than the Gabba is. It won’t handle anything bigger than what’s there, and you would have to demolish all the heritage stands and probably the Convention Centre to try and fit it.

Yes, love the concept and can see this servicing Brisbane for many years. Was in Sydney last week and was impressed with how their public transport system (light rail, trains & buses) integrates seamlessly into their entertainment and spots precincts (Accor Stadium & other Olympic Park venues, Allianz Stadium & Sydney Cricket Ground, and venues such as the Lyric Theatre at Pyrmont).
