Marty Sheargold’s controversial comments about women’s sport may have opened up an even bigger can of worms.
The comedian, 53, parted ways with Triple M following his stinging criticism of national female football side the Matildas, comments slammed as “sexist and misogynistic” by Olympians.
However an even darker story may be emerging, with an online poll producing an almost even split when it comes to your views on the spray.
Readers were also divided on the matter, with many insisting Sheargold’s comments were merely a poor joke.
Others said women’s sport should be critiqued in the same way as men’s.
However plenty slammed Sheargold as being out of touch.

WHAT YOU SAID
Get over yourselves
Sensible but auto rejected.
I watch the men playing tennis but I don’t watch the women.
Darren
Perfect example of Cancel Culture at work. Unfortunately people just can’t handle the truth anymore!
Daniel
The attempt to silence peoples speech is getting out of hand. He says North Melbournes mens side is unwatchable, where was her outcry then? Can’t pick and choose when to be outraged.
Billy Redden
Not a fan but wonder if we would see this much commotion if he said the same thing about the Broncos last year.
Women’s sport is fair game
Maxwell
It would seem that it’s been decided that the Matildas are untouchable and no one is allowed to express a public opinion to the contrary.
Graham
All you wokes just get over it – he was having a joke, a trend sadly lacking these days in this woke world And tell me the Matildas don’t need a serve – most overrated and underperforming Aust sports team
stephen
It’s the truth. No one watches women’s sport. It’s like watching paint dry. I don’t care if they play or not but if the truth hurts, too bad.
Paul
Society has a long way to go in how women’s sport is perceived? Absolute nonsense. If women want to change how their sport is perceived improve the standard and make it watchable.
He’s allowed an opinion
Leanne
Good on you Marty, everyone is allowed to have an opinion.
John
A lot of what he said was true and compared to Kyle Sandilands pretty tame. Either way I wouldn’t listen to either program.
Keren
That’s he’s opinion and he’s entitled to it. I am a female and I think the same and I’m allowed to.
Cash is king
We truly have lost freedom of speech. I don’t necessarily agree with what Sheargold said, but losing his job is far too harsh. So he expressed an opinion; is that now a crime?
We must do better
Peter
What makes an adult think and say those things without considering for a moment the likely impact. Very disappointing Marty, you should know better.
Richard
Spot on Libby, appalling comments by a buffoon
TM
He is a dinosaur, shouldn’t have said it deserves everything he gets
patrick
