David Crisafulli continues to dodge legitimate questions on 2032 Games stadium preference

Opposition Leader David Crisafulli is quick to criticise as ‘horrendous’ the planned revamp of QSAC for the 2032 Games, but he still refuses to say what his preferred alternative is.

‘Give us 100 days’: Crisafulli vows to fix Brisbane Olympics ‘mess’

It is a bit rich for Opposition Leader David Crisafulli to, on the one hand, directly criticise as “horrendous" the Premier’s plan for hosting the track and field events at the Olympics and Paralympics in 2032 when on the other hand he simply refuses to say what his preferred alternative is.

There is one certainty in all of this: That there will be track and field meets at both of the Games here in 2032. There is also one truth: That only one side of politics has so far come clean with Queenslanders on where they think it should be held.

Mr Crisafulli was yesterday at it again, dodging legitimate and direct questions about what his plans are.

Knowing he would deflect again to his plan for a 100-day venues review after the election, we instead asked what were the characteristics Mr Crisafulli thought were needed for the main 2032 athletics stadium.

His reply: “We will have a proper plan, and it will create generational infrastructure that every part of Queensland will benefit from, and every Queenslander will be proud of.” In other words, he completely dodged the question. He shouldn’t.

While we understand the value of a review undertaken by experts – and agree the current plan stinks – we also believe the man most likely to wake up as premier on October 27 should take voters into his trust.

With the formal campaign now just over a week away, we hope Mr Crisafulli does not make a habit of this – of giving answers that sound like they have come from the script of ABC comedy show Utopia.

If he does, we will be calling it out.
