Engines are revving and excitement levels are red-lining as Townsville’s businesses like OBJ’s Sports Bar and Grill gear up for thousands of revheads to pour through their doors this weekend.

Situated almost trackside in Central Village in the Townsville CBD, OBJ’s Sports Bar and Grill has built a reputation for its roaring three-day parties in support of the annual NTI Townsville 500 Repco Supercars Championship events.

This year OBJ’s team has planned a range of special entertainment for the bash including a special food menu, decorations, competitions and live music for their patrons.

OBJ’s venue manager Corey Smethurst said celebrations were a way to provide the ultimate destination for Townsville to enjoy the buzz of the yearly race.

“There is nothing quite like the V8 Supercars weekend in Townsville because the energy is next level and the whole Central Village precinct becomes electric,” Mr Smethurst said.

It normally takes more than a month to prepare for the festivities, with OBJ’s venue manager Corey Smethurst head constantly racing with all the finer details of their supercars event.

“I get so excited to think about seeing our venue and the CBD come alive. It really is a stressful time to make sure everything is perfect and we deliver a quality experience for our sports fans,” he said.

In between watching the sporting action on OBJ’s big screen and 12 TV’s, patrons will be treated to the musical talents of local acts Old Man Yak, Brody Lawton and Mik Henderson.

Mr Smethurst said he had been negotiating a partnership with Anderson Motorsports over the last two months, and would welcome its crew for three dinners across the weekend.

“We are also super excited for the OBJ’s logo to be featured on their two DJR-built Anderson Motorsport Ford Mustangs which will be racing at the event,” he said.

The Shitbox Rally and Mystery Box Rally will also be welcomed to fundraise for their racing challenges.
