NT WorkSafe is urging businesses to improve worker training and follow manufacturer guidelines after four serious workplace incidents in the past three months, three of which resulted in injuries.
In December, a worker suffered severe burns while operating a machine used to melt polystyrene for recycling.
Investigators believe modifications to the equipment may have caused a blockage, leading to a dangerous pressure build-up.
When the worker attempted to clear it, molten polystyrene sprayed onto them, causing serious injuries.
Three separate incidents in February saw formwork collapse on Darwin construction sites.
Two workers were injured after being struck in the head by falling debris, while in another case, 15m of formwork came crashing down — fortunately, with no injuries.
Initial investigations suggest workers may not have been adequately trained in installing or dismantling the structures, and some setups failed to meet manufacturer guidelines.
Plant, which includes machinery, tools, and equipment, is one of the leading causes of serious workplace injuries in Australia.
NT WorkSafe is urging businesses to prioritise safety and ensure workers are properly trained to prevent further incidents.
