A large crocodile has been sighted at a popular swimming spot near Dundee, with NT Parks and Wildlife warning Top End residents to be “crocwise”.
The Crocodile Management Unit received several reports from members of the public that a large crocodile had been sighted at a culvert on Barramundi Drive.
The unit attended the culvert on Wednesday, installing a trap and several signs warning locals not to enter the water.
NT Parks and Wildlife said it was a timely reminder that crocodiles could inhabit any waterway and move undetected.
“We would like to remind the public to be crocwise and not to swim in any waterway, including creeks and culverts, unless there is a NTG sign saying that swimming is permitted,” they said.
The Parks and Wildlife Facebook page said it was “very concerning” that locals referred to the culvert as their “swimming spot”.
