A brand new walking trail at Uluru is shaping up to be another “world-renowned experience” in the Territory, with the government backing the project to the tune of $10 million.

Dubbed the Uluru-Kata Tjuta signature walk, the new 54km trail running through the UNESCO world heritage listed park is set to open in 2026.

Lands, planning, and environment minister Josh Burgoyne said the new tourist offering – operated by the Australian Walking Company – has already garnered 400 pre bookings for the opening next year.

Punters tackling the new track will do so over five days and four nights, in what Tourism Central Australia chief executive Danial Rochford said would be a “world-renowned experience”.

Accommodation, refreshments, and meals are set to be provided for punters partaking in the new walk, which takes attendees through Kata-Tjuta and onto Uluru for $5,395 a head.

Territory treasurer Bill Yan said the CLP government supported the project with a $10 million business concessional loan “to help bring this world-class experience to life”.

“We made a commitment to rebuild the Territory economy, and this investment is an important step toward delivering on that promise,” Mr Yan said.

Mr Burgoyne said the project will “encourage longer stays, greater visitor spend, and deeper engagement with our region, which creates flow on benefits for local businesses, operators, and communities”.

“By attracting visitors from across the country and beyond, we’re putting Central Australia firmly on the map as a destination for immersive, high-quality eco-tourism,” he said.
