Woman critical after hit-and-run at Villawood pedestrian crossing in Sydney’s west

A woman in her 20s is fighting for life after being struck by a car that fled the scene while she was on a pedestrian crossing in southwest Sydney.

A woman has been critically injured in a hit-and-run crash while crossing the road in Sydney’s southwest, with police now hunting the driver of a blue Hyundai who fled the scene.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Woodville Rd and Kirrang Ave in Villawood shortly before 7:25am on Monday following reports of a pedestrian struck by a car.

Paramedics treated the woman, believed to be in her 20s, at the scene before rushing her to Liverpool Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.

Officers have been informed that the woman was using a pedestrian crossing when she was hit by a blue Hyundai hatchback travelling south on Woodville Rd.

The driver failed to stop after the collision and was last seen heading southbound.

Police established a crime scene, which is now being examined by specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit.

Woodville Rd has been closed southbound between Christiana St and the Hume Highway (Meccano Set), with one northbound lane also partially shut.

Authorities have warned the road is expected to remain closed for several hours and motorists should avoid the area.

As investigation commence police are urging anyone with information about the crash – or was in the area at the time with any available dashcam/mobile phone footage – to contact Fairfield Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
