A SOON-to-be mother, her unborn twins and a teenage girl are dead after a horrific head-on crash in Sydney’s west overnight.
Two men are also fighting for their lives in hospital after suffering critical injuries in the crash that marked a tragic start to the October long weekend.
A Mazda 3 travelling south on the Northern Road at Orchard Hills collided with a northbound Nissan Tiida at Orchard Hills about 7:40pm last night.
The impact outside the Penrith Golf Club forced the Nissan backward into two other vehicles, a Holden ute and a Toyota Corolla.
The drivers of those cars - an 18-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman - escaped injury after swerving to try and avoid the crash.
The 17-year-old woman behind the wheel of the Nissan died and a 23-year-old heavily pregnant woman seated in the back was also killed.
Police say the woman’s unborn twins also died in the crash.

A 25-year-old man seated in the front seat of the Nissan was rushed to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.
The driver of the other car, the Mazda, was a 29-year-old man who suffered severe leg injuries after being trapped in the wreckage.
He is in Westmead Hospital in a critical condition and under police guard.
A crime scene has been established along the entire stretch of the Northern Road and is being examined by crash investigation officers to determine the cause of the accident.
The accident came just hours after the beginning of the NSW Police Force’s Operation Slow Down, designed specifically to reduce the road toll over the long weekend.
There were three fatalities in two crashes over the long weekend last year.
