Tweed and Byron shires have been reinstated to the Queensland border bubble after lockdown was lifted in the regions.

A Queensland Health spokesman said residents would be allowed to cross from 1am on Wednesday for work, food and medical purposes as previously permitted.

Anyone crossing for work is required to have had at least jab of the Covid-19 vaccine.

NSW Health also confirmed the Kempsey lockdown would be lifted at midnight.

Meanwhile, Member for Tweed Geoff Provest has flagged concerns with the double vaccination requirement for hospitality and retail come October 11.

He said although the supply for Pfizer and Moderna vaccines had increased in the state’s north he had concerns for residents waiting for their second AstraZeneca jab.

“I think some leniency should be given if they’ve already had their first jab,” Mr Provest said.

He said discussions were occurring with the state government on the issue but he encouraged anyone with a previous Pfizer booking to check again if they could get their jab earlier.

His comments came after NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard confirmed the Tweed and Byron Shires would be coming out of lockdown.

Mr Hazzard said the areas had not recorded any other cases of concern during the week of restrictions, which started at midnight on Tuesday last week.

“Thank you to the community in those two areas who have complied with direction in regard to lockdown,” Mr Hazzard said.

It came after Member for Ballina Tamara Smith earlier said she was led to believe a 7-day lockdown for Tweed and Byron shires would end at midnight on Tuesday, as originally planned.

An announcement on the lockdown was expected to come on Monday afternoon, after the state government released a road map out of lockdowns for vaccinated residents.

The two shires went into lockdown last week when a makeup artist from Sydney travelled to the area to work on reality TV show I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here.

She tested positive for Covid-19 after being out in the community.

The woman now faces criminal charges for allegedly breaching stay at home requirements.

A second Covid-19 case was confirmed in the Tweed on Wednesday last week however the person was in isolation for their infectious period.
