SUSPENDED Gold Coast Titans player Dave Taylor was a force to be reckoned with during the Tweed Seagulls v Easts Tigers clash yesterday.
The Seagulls walked away 23-20 victors at Langland Park, but coach Aaron Zimmerle said that as usual the Seagulls had not relied on simply one player, but a complete team effort.
"There were some great parts, there were some ugly parts," he said.
"But as a group we can win ugly."
Zimmerle said he was happy with his team's performance in the QRL InTrust Cup so far and knew the boys could dig deep and continue to represent the Tweed in true fighting style.
"We made some errors, but Dave Taylor did make a difference," he said.
"He's dynamic, every time he runs it takes four guys to bring him down.
"The guys work really well together as a unit, we would've run into trouble if we saw him as a saviour."
Tweed was down two players from injuries come the end of the match, with hooker Matt King out with a concussion and bench prop Kingi Akauola down for the count with an ankle sprain.
"Kingi's ankle we're unsure of at this stage," Zimmerle said.
"Matty was pretty dusty with concussion.
"He possibly might not be able to play this week."
Taylor was able to pull of a perfect long pass to set up a try with winger Ali Hijazi in the 66th minutes and Taylor made short work of the Tigers' defence to cross over the line himself just before the half time buzzer rang.
Tim Maccan and Brad Lees kept the points coming for the gulls, brawling tit-for-tat with the Tigers to keep the Tweed team on top of the proceedings.
Zimmerle said that next week the Seagulls would be ready and raring to take apart the Mackay Cutters in another away game at Virgin Australia Stadium.
He said that his players were meshing well as a group and the travel time gave the team a great chance to bond and mull over strategies for Saturday's game.
Tweed Seagulls are equal first on the QRL ladder with Northern Pride, Wynnum Manly, Souths Logan and Mackay on eight points.
