Authorities have suspended a search for a female swimmer reported to have failed to resurface following a dip at a northern NSW beach.
Emergency services were called to Pottsville Beach, on the Tweed coast, about 7.10am on Tuesday following reports that the unknown woman had entered the water but had failed to resurface.
Police, along with water police, the Westpac rescue helicopter and Surf Life Saving NSW members, commenced the multi-agency search to locate the woman.
The woman has not been located and the search was suspended on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said there had not been any official missing person reports lodged and no unattended vehicles or items had been located near the beach.
Despite the search being suspended, police urged anyone who matched the description of the woman to contact local police.
She was described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in her early 20s, of thin build, with light brown shoulder-length hair in a ponytail, and was wearing cream-coloured shorts.
