Forensics personnel have continued carefully combing the coastal home near the Queensland-NSW border where a woman was found dead more than 24 hours earlier.
Police made the grim discovery at Kingscliff about 8.40am on Monday after a concern for welfare report was filed with Tweed-Byron Police.
The body of the 56-year-old was found inside the Seaview St home a short time later, with police subsequently launching an investigation.
The death is being treated as suspicious. At this stage, no one has been arrested.
At the scene on Tuesday morning, detectives were canvassing neighbouring properties along the elevated street, which overlooks the ocean at Kingscliff.
Neighbouring resident Josh Yates, who just moved in a week ago, said he was “in a state of shock and couldn’t put his feelings into words” over the death.
“It’s rattled me a bit. I never heard anything and then police just swarmed on Monday morning,” he said.
Mr Yates, who was visibly shaking and holding a cigarette when speaking with media, said “I don’t know what to feel”.
Another concerned resident, who asked not to be named, said a “lovely couple” lived in the home along with others, possibly teenagers.
“It’s a harmonious street but lately it seems like Kingscliff is on the map in terms of bad things happening,” she said.
“They (the couple) have had a few parties and by all accounts, seem lovely.”
