NSW, ACT childcare quality ratings revealed 2025

Hundreds of childcares across NSW do not meet national quality standards, with eight listed as requiring significant improvement. Search and see the full list to find out how your childcare rated.

Hundreds of childcares across NSW and the ACT do not meet national quality standards, with new data revealing eight centres were also identified as needing significant improvement.

The April 2025 data from the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority reveals that of 6475 childcares across NSW and the ACT, 464 were working towards the national quality standards.

Of the 464 centres working towards the standards, 315 were long day cares, 122 were out of school hours care, 14 were family daycares and 13 were preschool kindergartens.

Another 5592 childcares met or exceeded the standards, while 414 centres were unrated.

ACECQA is the independent national authority that helps governments administer the National Quality Framework for children’s education and care, including by keeping information on the assessment, rating and regulation of childcare services across the nation.

Across Sydney’s eastern suburbs and inner city, encompassing City of Sydney, Woollahra, Waverley, Randwick and Bayside councils, 324 childcares either met or exceeded quality standards, while 18 were working towards meeting standards, and 21 were unrated.

In the inner west, 135 childcares either met or exceeded quality standards, while eight were working towards them, and 11 were unrated.

In St George, 185 childcares either met or exceeded quality standards, while 16 were working towards them, and 19 were unrated.

In Sydney’s north, in the suburbs of the Upper and Lower North Shore, as well as along the northern beaches, 401 childcare centres met or exceeded national standards, while 17 were listed as working towards them and 18 centres were not rated.

Across Parramatta and Cumberland, 304 childcare centres either met or exceeded quality standards, 30 were working towards the standards, one needed significant improvement and 28 were unrated.

Across Ryde and Hunters Hill, 124 childcare centres either met or exceeded quality standards, eight were working towards the standards and six were unrated.

In the Hills Shire area, 154 childcare centres either met or exceeded quality standards, while 13 were unrated and 11 childcare centres were working towards the standards.

One childcare centre, Little Amigos Childcare in Winston Hills, has been highlighted as requiring “significant improvement” against the national standards.

In the Hornsby area, 19 childcare centres either met or exceeded quality standards, while two were working towards them.

In the Penrith region, 155 childcare centres either met or exceeded quality standards, while 16 childcare centres were working towards them and nine were unrated.

In the Blacktown area, 46 childcare centres either met or exceeded quality standards, while two were working towards them, and five centres were unrated.

Out of 207 childcare centres across Sydney’s Sutherland Shire, 189 either met or exceeded quality standards, while nine were working toward meeting standards, and nine were unrated.

Across Campbelltown, Camden and Picton, 187 childcare centres were either meeting or exceeding the standards, while 14 were working towards meeting them, and 20 were unrated.

Across the Central Coast and Lake Macquarie, 322 childcares either met or exceeded quality standards, while 16 were working towards the standards and 20 were unrated.

No childcare centres were found to need significant improvement.

On the Mid North Coast, encompassing Port Macquarie and Taree, 52 childcares either met or exceeded quality standards, while two were working towards the standards, and two were unrated.

Across Coffs Harbour and Grafton regions, including surrounding towns such as Boambee in the south through to Lawrence in the north, a total of 18 childcare centres met or exceeded the quality standards.

Three providers were working towards meeting the standards.

In the Lismore local government area, 37 childcares either met or exceeded quality standards, while one was working towards them, and three were unrated.

Across Ballina and Byron, 25 childcares either met or exceeded quality standards, while none were working towards the standards, and only one was unrated.

In the Tweed Shire, eight child care centres exceeded the quality standards, 34 met the outcomes and three were working towards meeting the standards, while one centre remained unrated.

In the Illawarra region from Wollongong in the north to Gerringong in the south, 156 childcare centres met or exceeded quality standards, while six were still working toward quality standards.

Seven Illawarra preschools were unrated.

Slightly further south in the Shoalhaven region from Kiama in the north to Ulladulla in the south, 66 childcare centres met or exceeded quality standards, while seven were still working toward quality standards. Seven Shoalhaven preschools were unrated.

In the Eurobodalla region from Batemans Bay to southern Narooma, 19 childcare centres met or exceeded quality standards, while only four were still working toward quality standards.

In the Bega Valley stretching from Bermagui to the Victorian border, 19 childcare centres met or exceeded quality standards, with no centres reported as still working toward the standards. However, five were unrated.
