Jaren Lee Vigor: Surfers Paradise bar owner charged with fraud, recklessly causing harm

A co-owner of a bar on Cavill Ave was charged after he discovered he was wanted on a warrant during a random breath test.

A Surfers Paradise bar co-owner has been granted bail after he found out he was wanted for arrest at a random breath test.

Jaren Lee Vigor, 23, appeared in Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday.

He faces charges of recklessly cause grievous bodily harm, conducting fundraising appeal without authority, dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception and refusing or failing to comply with requirement under part of the liquor act.

He has not entered formal pleas.

It is alleged Mr Vigor caused grievous bodily harm to another man at the Grand Elixxa Hotel in Gunnedah on February 24, 2019.

It is further alleged he conducted a fundraising appeal on January 26, 2019 without the authority to where police alleged he obtained $1500 from three local organisations dishonestly by advertising the funds were for charity.

Mr Vigor applied for bail on Monday.

Mr Vigor’s lawyer told the court the father of two who owns a bar in Surfers Paradise was unaware of the charges until he was told there was a warrant out for his arrest at a random breath test.

According to company records Mr Vigor owns Saltys on Cavill with brother Jake Vigor.

The company and his brother are not accused of any crimes or misconduct.

Mr Vigor’s lawyer told the court his client was in remission for pancreatic cancer and had significant ties to the community, working 80-hour weeks.

He said the alleged victim had been doing maintenance work for an establishment Mr Vigor owned when the alleged incident occurred.

He told the court Mr Vigor had no criminal convictions however conceded he had been fined recently for an assault.

Mr Vigor was granted bail with conditions to be of good behaviour and live at a Benowa address.

The matter is next before the court on March 21 where Vigor is required to appear.
