Mark Andrew Nolan, 66, rocked back and forth in his prison greens as he appeared via video link from Clarence Correctional Centre at Coffs Harbour Local Court on Tuesday last week.
Nolan is accused of murdering 58-year-old Duncan Campbell, whose body was discovered in bushland on John Champion Way near a City Hill campsite on February 12 last year.
Crown Director of Public Prosecutions Uma Ossatjyz handed up a sealed copy of the case conference certificate during the brief hearing.
Nolan’s case has been committed to the Supreme Court, with his arraignment scheduled for February 13.
The alleged victim, described by locals as a beloved grandfather, was last seen on Albany St, Coffs Harbour, on Sunday, February 4, 2024.
When family members were unable to locate or contact Mr Campbell, they reported him missing to police on February 9.
Three days later, Coffs-Clarence police made the grim discovery of his body in bushland near a local campsite at approximately 3.30pm.
Nolan, who police allege was living in his van in the area where Mr Campbell was allegedly murdered, was arrested by Homicide Squad detectives at the Country 2 Coast Motor Inn adjacent to the Big Banana on the Pacific Highway.
Nolan has not entered a plea and remains in custody on remand after being formally refused bail by the court.
