A secluded luxury rehab retreat catering to celebrities with addiction issues and corporate heavyweights suffering mental burnout has opened on Sydney’s northern beaches.
Charging as much as $20,000 a week, the exclusive Tranquilo Wellness centre offers clients counselling and advice on healthy living while they stay in five-star resort-style accommodation.
The 2.1ha property even has a helipad on its roof for high-flyers from overseas or interstate.
Tranquilo says it caters to “high-profile” clients who “need help with drug, alcohol and behavioural addiction, mental health and lifestyle issues”.
Management describes the semirural property, on the edge of a national park, as “Sydney’s best kept secret for the rich and famous”.
It is reluctant to publicly reveal its exact location for privacy reasons, except to say it’s in the “scenic hills of the northern beaches”.
In its marketing material it tells prospective clients that Tranquilo is in a spot where “you will be sheltered from the public, allowing you to relax and focus on your recovery”.
“Tranquilo is ideal for celebrities and high-profile individuals who want to work on their recovery in peace, supported by industry experts in a luxury setting,” their online blurb states.
“Clients are collected by car from a designated pick-up point near Tranquilo to ensure the address remains confidential and client’s privacy is protected.
“Tranquilo also has a helipad should you prefer to arrive via helicopter. This is perfect for international or interstate clients.”
During their stays, clients have access to psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors and 24-hour on call mental health nurses.
They can also seek advice from a dietitian, nutritionist, naturopath and fitness experts, supplemented by “holistic therapies” such as acupuncture, massage, kinesiology coldwater therapy and breathwork.
There are two gyms on the property along with a swimming pool, infra-red sauna, spa baths, cinema, tennis court, and hyperbaric chamber.
Tranquilo Wellness managing director, Tamara Buchanan, said reputation and the risk of losing their job and status was a significant barrier for high-profile professionals coming forward to seek treatment.
“While the elite seem to have it all, in reality, a life of stress and excess inevitably leads to unhealthy lifestyle choices which can surreptitiously lead to serious addiction and mental health problems later in life,” Ms Buchanan said.
“We provide ourselves on our discretion. We’re under the radar.
“We’ve already had very high-profile clients through who were very nervous about being outed.
“If you are up there, and you want to get some help, this is the discreet way of doing it.”
“It is well known in the recovery community that doctors, dentists, psychiatrists, lawyers, barristers and judges and high-profile personalities use unhealthy levels of drugs and alcohol, however presenting to a rehab for help is usually not an option for them,” Ms Buchanan said.
“For those fortunate enough to be able to afford the fee and time out of the spotlight,
it could be a lifesaving experience.”
