Former NRL star Jarryd Hayne has offloaded the last of his investment apartments.
It was one of the two apartments he bought off the plan in Parramatta in 2013 when he was playing with the Eels.
The two-bedroom, dual-key, 16th-floor Koi apartment secured $690,000 having cost $600,000.
It sold through Ray Fayad and Peter Younan at Laing+Simmons who marketed it as one apartment split into two self-contained units on one title with a potential rental return of $1050 per week.
They had briefly listed it for sale in 2021 as a “perfect investment opportunity with a potential rental of $760 per week”.
Hayne’s other Koi apartment that cost $605,000 was sold in 2021 for $670,000 after he gave the sale instructions for the 17th floor apartment from a prison cell.
The Koi complex is located 400m to Parramatta River Walk, 500m to Parramatta Square, 800m to the “Eat Street” precinct, 850m to Parramatta Westfield and 900m to Parramatta Station.
Hayne, whose recent league comeback with the Wentworthville Magpies in the third-tier Ron Massey Cup was delayed after a hamstring injury, amassed an impressive $5m-plus property portfolio as he rose through the ranks of the NRL.
But now he only owns a cottage on the Central Coast, occupied by his mother. It was bought in 2010 for $388,750 with approval secured in 2019 for a $120,000 granny flat.
He had investment properties in Paddington and Darlinghurst that were sold for $2.85m in 2017 when he was at the Gold Coast Titans and $2.15m in 2019. The Paddington terrace was bought for $1.13m in 2013 and renovated as was the Darlinghurst terrace which cost $1,585,000 in 2013.
Hayne’s first Sydney home purchase at St Peters, in the inner west, sold for $995,000 in 2015 as he made the move to the US to pursue a career in the NFL, having paid $527,500 for it in 2007, when the 19-year-old winger was the second youngest footballer to play for NSW.
Hayne was found guilty in 2021 of sexual assault and jailed. In 2024 he won an appeal against his conviction and was released from jail. Last June it was announced that Hayne would not stand trial for a fourth time, after prosecutors dropped the charges.
QUEENSLAND MIGRATION COMPLETE FOR TITAN RCG
It took 122 days, but NRL star Reagan Campbell-Gillard has finally offloaded his remaining Sydney property, following his move to Queensland after signing with the Gold Coast Titans.
The prop forward, whose nickname is RCG, listed his Harrington Park home in early November.
Andrew Valciukas at First National Real Estate Collective, who had been seeking $1,999,950 to $2,099,950, has apparently secured a $1.94m buyer.
RCG paid $1,955,000 with fiancee Alira Hoskin for the four-bedroom, two-bathroom residence with study in 2022, three years after it was built by local specialists EST Building.
Set on 702 sqm, the home was constructed with polished concrete floors, recycled brick feature walls, recycled hardwood timber, elevated ceilings, attic and a two-car garage.
The couple, who got engaged in 2021, have two children.
At 31, Campbell-Gillard brings 221 games of NRL experience to the Titans, already boasting three Queensland State of Origin forwards. He played against the Bulldogs in round two.
On its late 2024 listing, PropTrack calculated the suburb’s four-bedroom median price at $1.32m, down on its $1.405m peak in March last year. There had been more than 100 sales during the prior 12 months with the median time on market being 26 days.
Now PropTrack puts the median as $1.45m after 197 sales in the past year at a 30-day median time on market.
As soon as Campbell-Gillard confirmed his interstate move in early October, he sold his investment property at Claremont Meadows in Western Sydney.
The four-bedroom, two-bathroom residence fetched $1.176m through Paul Dukes and Lachlan Kowalewski of Dukes Estate Agents.
It was initially listed at $720 per week in 2023, when the home was converted from his primary residence to an investment property. It was bought for $400,088 in 2015.
SHIRE’S YATES AND EGAN COP A LOSS AT BURRANEER
Sporting power couple Luke Egan and Jessica Yates have sold in the Sutherland Shire for a surprising loss.
Egan, a former pro surfer, and Yates, a Fox Sports presenter, had spent $3.5m in 2022 on the tightly held mid-century Burraneer home, which was sold for the first time in six decades by the Morris family.
The 1210 sqm property marketed as being “ripe for total refurbishment” fetched $3.45m on its resale.
“Create a luxury family estate or land bank for the future,” the initial marketing suggested.
Sold last December, it settled last month, with the new buyers, the Lambert family, now putting it up for rent.
Property management agent Georgina Krimizis from Greig Property Agents is seeking $750 a week. The advised rental terms include an initial six-month lease, with opportunity to extend monthly.
In the 2024 December quarter, the Sutherland Shire was the second best Sydney performer, according to CoreLogic’s Pain & Gain report, which calculated that 98.3 per cent of its sales were profitable. Only Penrith on 99 per cent outdid the shire in the list of the 34 local government areas.
Its median time for the loss-takers was 2.9 years, with the loss at $80,000. The shire’s loss takers lost $950,750. However, the profit takers typically had held for 10 years, gaining $479,790.
These vendors pocketed a total $401,302,477 windfall.
Of course, Egan and Yates did well when they sold their Cronulla home for $5.5m in 2022.
They had paid $1,425,000 for the Wanda Beach property nine years previously. They got rid of the original classic beachside bungalow, replacing it with a designer property with pool, which they completed around 2018.
Yates has been the face of Fox Sports F1 coverage and last week she sat down with Sir Jackie Stewart.
Egan is one of Australia’s most famous professional surfers, having competed on the world stage for more than 25 years.
GAI’S BLOCK GETS HEARTS RACING AT RANDWICK
Gai Waterhouse and husband Robbie are selling some of their commercial property empire – an Art Deco building at Randwick with hopes for $13.5m.
The three-storey Belmore Rd offering, advertised as being “unquestionably one of the best positioned sites in the eastern suburbs to hit the market in the last decade”, cost the Waterhouses $10.75m in 2015, when secured with no registered mortgage.
It was bought from the Piccoli family.
There are 12 residential apartments above three retail shops on the 905 sqm holding on the eastern side of Belmont Rd, directly in front of a pedestrian crossing opposite Silver St.
The apartments are a mix of one, two and three-bedroom offerings.
The commercial leases are with Flower Forum, MGM Martin, and Red Cross Shop Randwick.
The building currently returns $688,000 per annum, up from its purchase when marketed as having a gross annual rental of $575,000. Land tax and council rates now add up to around $110,000 per annum.
N G Farah Real Estate Kingsford agents Peter Goulding and Theo Karangis have scheduled a midweek April 10 auction, which won’t mess with Waterhouses’s busy Saturday racing calendar.
She’ll be at Randwick the weekend before and the weekend after. All up, her stable has 24 Group 1 runners across the two weekends of The Star Championships.
Of course, nearby Royal Randwick was hallowed turf for Gai’s late champion trainer father Tommy Smith, who raced there from 1941.
‘JA’ ACES SALE OF HIGHLANDS HOMESTEAD
Former federal backbencher and tennis champion John Alexander has secured the settlement of his Southern Highlands estate Iona Park for $7.5m.
The eight-bedroom homestead with a billiard room and home theatre can sleep up to 20.
The 40ha property at Moss Vale was being rented out for just over $2000 a night on weekends and the buyers from Sydney will continue to rent the property out as an Airbnb.
Alexander purchased Iona Park for $4.845m in 2017 from Trish Steadman-Towell.
Alexander’s purchase came after radio broadcaster Alan Jones inspected the property with him.
It came after the sale of his Putney home.
Alexander had been seeking to offload the property since October 2023. The sale to local Paul Edwards came after Alexander had slashed the price from its original $10m-$11m hopes.
The property had the ability to carry 20 head of cattle and 14 horses, with a horse-riding arena and indoor round.
On its listing Alexander indicated he would like to reduce his workload by relocating to a similar but smaller property. He signalled he would seek to spend more time with friends and family, playing more golf and, of course, tennis. The estate includes two championship clay tennis courts.
FARM PRICE TO BLOOM IN SALE
Lorn Rose Farm, in the lower Hunter Valley at Lorn, has been listed with $4.5 million to $4.9 million hopes through PRD agent James Hannah.
The four-hectare holding features a refurbished Federation farmhouse built for the Stocker family. Its name arises from being a commercial rose garden for decades.
It last sold for $1.8 million in 2018 when bought by money coach Denise Duffield-Thomas and her husband Mark.
ESTATE POISED FOR NEXT PHASE
Dungowan, the southern NSW estate listed by Deanna Barilaro, the ex-wife of former NSW deputy premier John Barilaro, has gone under offer.
The Oallen house came with $3.5 million hopes through local agent Denver Shoemark.
The six-bedroom, six-bathroom abode has been a $2200 a night short stay option.
Mrs Barilaro has owned it outright since 2022 having paid $2.015 million in 2014 with her then husband.
NEVER SAY NO TO FINE CASTLE
Evermoore, the Gleniffer estate of Barbara Moore, has been listed for April 10 auction through Ray White Rural agent Geneva Isenbert.
The 5ha offering, with 250m frontage to the Never Never River, comes with a castle.
The three-level castle features 12 stained-glass windows depicting the Prophets from the Old Testament, obtained from a kirk in Scotland.
