Emergency services were called to the Princes Highway at Kirrawee shortly before 9.40pm on Saturday, following reports of a crash involving a silver Toyota Echo and an e-bike carrying two boys, aged 16 and 15.
Police say the car struck the e-bike from behind, throwing the boys onto the roadside verge. The vehicle did not stop and fled the scene.
The 16-year-old rider suffered a fractured leg and head injuries and was taken to St George Hospital in a serious but stable condition. The 15-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries and was transported to Sydney Children’s Hospital.
Following inquiries, the Toyota Echo was located abandoned a short time later in Argyle Place in Kareela.
The vehicle has been seized by police for forensic examination.
Inquiries are now underway by officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit (CIU).
They are appealing for anyone with information about the crash or the driver of the car or where it was dumped in Argyle Place to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
