Sydney Christmas lights call out: Tell us where the best spots are in your area
We want to highlight the best Christmas lights across Sydney and NSW this year. Leave your details below, and if you have a photo include that as well.
After lighting up Christmas-time for three decades, one of the harbour city’s most festive families is ready to pass the merry and bright baton to new owners- and you can help.
Lauraine Overton, 74, and Peter Overton, 81, have decked their Quakers Hill home with an extravagant Christmas lights show each December for 31 years.
But the Overtons say it is time to hang up the reins.
“It has been a joy and an honour to share the magic of the season with everyone all these years,” Ms Overton told The Daily Telegraph.
“The support, smiles and kind words have made it all the more special,
“But by 80 it gets a bit too hard to keep climbing the ladders.”
The couple’s display, which they used to fundraise for charity, was a beloved community affair, with a volunteer Santa on-site and a church choir performing carols as “thousands” vcame to view the lights.
“Our largest year we gave out seven thousand lollipops,” Ms Overton said.
“We had fun … we had a lovely run.”
The couple’s decorations have found new homes across NSW.
Those who want to keep the Overtons’ Christmas tradition alive can join The Daily Telegraph’s Christmas light map, which marks NSW’s best merry and bright displays.
