A Grafton truckie busted nearly five times the legal limit after cops stopped him chaotically swerving his B-double on a Northern Rivers main arterial roadway has avoided jail.

Dallas Ryan Knox, 32, appeared before Magistrate Jeff Linden in Grafton Local Court on Monday.

The court heard Coffs/Clarence police were called to Big River Way at South Grafton on April 29 at about 8.20pm, after receiving reports of a truck swerving over the roadway.

Police on scene observed Knox’s truck driving dangerously and directed him to stop, according to documents tendered to the court.

Knox was subjected to a roadside breath test which returned a positive result – at 4.8 times the legal limit.

He was arrested and taken to Grafton Police Station where a secondary breath analysis returned a reading of 0.242.

Knox pleaded guilty to high range PCA (first offence) and negligent driving.

Mr Linden convicted Knox and sentenced him to a 12-month intensive correction order with conditions to abstain from drugs and be under the supervision of a community corrections officer.

Knox was also disqualified for nine months from holding any drivers licence and must hold an interlock drivers licence for 24 months thereafter.

Knox was convicted for negligent driving yet received no further penalty.
