A western Sydney community is grieving after a four-year-old boy was struck and killed by a car on Monday afternoon.
Just after 12pm, emergency services were called to Glossop St in North St Marys, following reports a boy had been hit by a car.
A spokesperson for NSW Ambulance confirmed paramedics treated the boy at the scene, however, he died on the way to hospital.
“It’s sad. They [the family] are never going to have a good Christmas [after this],” Byron, 48, a worker at a nearby business, told The Daily Telegraph.
“How can you celebrate it? Things shouldn’t happen like that.”
Police cordoned off the surrounding area, including grassland and homes. Officers were seen photographing and swabbing a grey Ford Sedan with red P-plates at a petrol station down the road from the scene.
The car had a notable dent in its front passenger side.
In a statement, NSW Police said a 28-year-old man was taken to Nepean Hospital for mandatory testing.
The investigation is ongoing and police urge anyone with information, dashcam footage or CCTV to either contact Nepean Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
