A volatile war of words has erupted after a Tweed woman called for kids to be banned from a local dog park – and the lass and her lassie made no bones about their pet peeve.

On Sunday, Tweed woman and proud puppy mum Nadeen Carney unleashed an irate rant on a local community page after a ruff run-in with another dog owner and his two young children.

“Can I just put this out there? Dog parks are especially designed and made for dogs … not little kids,” she wrote.

“I took my puppy to the dog park at Banora and this bloke showed up with his two dogs and two small children who were out of control and not treating the dogs with respect.”

Ms Carney then added: “I am not sure what my puppy will do with kids hence why I went to the DOG park.”

“Because the man would not take his head out of his phone it ruined our first afternoon at the DOG park and then I had to take my dog home from the DOG park.”

Ms Carney went on to say that she “totally agreed” with other Facebook users that dog parks should be exclusively for canines and not little kids.

While several pet owners rushed to Ms Carney’s defence, others were not so thrilled. One user went as far to say “for goodness sake they’re kids … get a life.”

A fiery debate erupted, with Ms Carney writing: “I’m putting it (the post) out there in case (the father) was unaware or too stupid to realise his kids should be controlled or preferably not at the designated dog park.”

Another woman let her feelings about dog park users fly: “A lot of the people who go to dog parks should be banned and ashamed of themselves. Lazy lot sit on their arses and talk on their phones totally NOT watching or interacting with their dog. They just let them S**T anywhere … YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE.”

Kyla Buttenshaw sarcastically quipped: “Ok next time I wanna take my dog to the park I’ll leave my kid at home.”

Jess Halliday told Ms Carney that most dogs are a “family pet” and that “expecting kids to not be at a dog park is insane”.

Ms Carney replied: “I agree but it’s a DOG park and I wouldn’t take my dog to a play gym cause (sic) it’s for kids.”

There are 12 off-leash dog areas across the Tweed Shire Council area. According to council’s website, dog owners are still required to have a leash on hand in off-leash areas and accompany and supervise their pet.
