Rude graffiti on Brunswick Heads welcome signage sparks social media frenzy

Visitors to an idyllic coastal town in northern NSW are being greeted by a rude welcome message on its entry signage. Here’s what council is doing about it.

“Welcome to Brunswick Heads. Population 1613 – plus two c**ts.”

That’s the charming welcome message to visitors and residents when they enter the picturesque northern NSW township – and council aren’t thrilled about it.

A photo of the expletive scrawled on the signage was posted to social media this week, prompting users to react with a mix of shock, awe and hilarity.

“Welcome to Brunswick Heads, Simple Pleasures”, the sign reads. “Population 1613”.

Next to it, a crude, hand-written message reads “+ 2 c**ts”.

One user asked: “Who are these two c**ts? I need to know.”

Another added “there’s more than two”, with a reply reading “I know at least 12”.

One person said the sign was “cooked and miserable”, but another disagreed, calling the graffiti “classic”.

Another said the word was an acronym and “actually stood for Caring Understanding Nice Types”.

One user said: “Could have been one of the people who stole my bike.”

Another user went as far to say he was “honoured to be one of the two, but I don’t know who the other c**t is”.

One person asked: “I wonder if they caught this little welcoming gem on the ABC Backroads episode?”

Another wrote: “Yeah most of them can’t afford to live in Brunswick Heads and only come to town to take your parking spots, steal your SUP and cover the beach with gazebos.”

Byron Shire Council Mayor Michael Lyon said he had not been aware of the graffiti, but similar vandalism was “a serious and ongoing problem within the Shire”.

“We will work to rectify this issue as soon as possible,” he said.
