One teen has been charged with murder and another charged in relation to events after the alleged homicide after a man who had been hosting a birthday party was found dead with multiple stab wounds.
Police confirmed on Tuesday – nearly five days after the 37-year-old was found at the Gateshead home by paramedics – they were treating the death as suspicious following an autopsy on Monday.
Shortly after 11pm on January 9, emergency services were called to a home on Mahogany Cres, Gateshead, after a concern for welfare call was made.
A 37-year-old man was found at the home suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.
It was revealed by this publication on Tuesday the man had been hosting a birthday party in the hours leading up to the discovery.
This publication was told more than a dozen people had partied at the house for several hours to celebrate the birthday.
The man was found close to death at the residence and was alone at the home when emergency services arrived, it was revealed.
Under Strike Force Bradley, local police and the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, a search warrant was executed at a home on Long Cres, Shortland, at about 5.30pm on Wednesday.
An 18-year-old man and 19-year-old woman were arrested and taken to Belmont Police Station.
The man was charged with murder (DV), and threat/cause injury/harm to prevent information to police and the woman was charged with accessory after the fact to murder.
Both were refused bail and will appear in Belmont Local Court on Thursday.
