A man has drowned at an enclosed harbour beach in Sydney’s east which is not patrolled by lifeguards.
A man has died after drowning at an unpatrolled harbourside beach in Sydney’s east.
Emergency services were called to Murray Rose (Redleaf) Pool in Double Bay about 2.30pm on Thursday after reports of welfare concerns.
Paramedics attended and treated the man but he died at the scene.
The enclosed harbourside beach is not patrolled by lifeguards and police are currently investigating the incident.
A crime scene has been established and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
Sydney on Thursday reached temperatures of 33 degrees.
Police blocked off the entrance to Redleaf Pool on the hot afternoon as Sydneysiders arrived hoping for a swim.
Several officers including forensic police were seen gathered near a blue tent set up on the shoreline to cover the man’s body.
A lone lifesaving ring sat on the sand.
It’s understood tbe man suffered a medical episode in the water and was pulled to shore by members of the public, but despite desperate attempts to revive him, he died on the sand.
Nestled between Double Bay and Point Piper, Redleaf is usually a serene spot where regulars visit for laps, sunbaking and afternoon dips.
