A probe is underway after a female pedestrian was hit by a police car driven by a senior officer, leaving her with spinal, pelvic and leg injuries.
Shortly before 2.20am on Friday morning, a NSW Police Sergeant was patrolling for a stolen vehicle when he struck the pedestrian on Middleton St in South Kempsey.
The 39-year-old woman sustained suspected spinal, pelvic and leg injuries and was rushed to Kempsey District Hospital before being flown to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
According to a statement from NSW Police, they were told the injuries were not life-threatening.
NSW Police Assistant Commissioner and Northern Region Commander Peter McKenna told media on Friday early investigations indicated the vehicle was not operating lights and sirens at the time of the collision.
A critical incident team from Manning-Great Lakes Police District are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
The male police officer returned a negative roadside breath test.
The investigation will be subject to an independent review.
