Nicole Kidman has farewelled her beloved late mother at a private memorial service on Sydney’s north shore this afternoon.

Family and close friends gathered at St Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Lavender Bay to celebrate the life of Janelle Kidman, who passed away last month.

Kidman and sister Antonia shared their loving memories of the family matriarch before several of Janelle’s eight grandkids also spoke of the precious moments they enjoyed with their grandmother.

TV host Lucia Hawley, the eldest grandchild, was eloquent yet emotional as each shared special stories they had with the woman they knew as ‘grandma’.

The one thing they shared in common was the love and “incredible wisdom” their grandmother had shared with them.

Pale pink and white roses decorated the church as they were Janelle’s favourite flowers.

Nicole wore all-black, her hair pulled back in a bow, as did husband Keith Urban in a black suit and tie.

The couple were filmed by Seven News leaving the church, Urban leading Kidman by hand to a waiting vehicle.

Oscar winning actor Russell Crowe, a long time personal friend of Nicole and her family, was among those paying their respects.

Nine newsreader Peter Overton and wife Jessica Rowe and their families also attended, as did actor Lisa Hensley, director John Polson and producer Bruna Papandrea.

Janelle, 84, died in September after a long illness, prompting Nicole fly home to Sydney to be with grieving family, meaning she was unable to accept the Best Actress Award at the prestigious Venice Film Festival for her starring role in the upcoming critically acclaimed Babygirl.

“I am in shock and I have to go to my family but this award is for her, she shaped me, she guided me, and she made me,” Kidman said in a letter read by Babygirl director Halina Reijn at the award ceremony.

Nicole is regarded a strong a strong contender for another Academy Award for her performance in the controversial film.

Nicole’s father Antony died in 2014 at the age of 75, almost exactly 10 years prior to Janelle’s passing.
