Man charged with animal cruelty after allegedly dragging a kangaroo behind his car in Snowy Mountains
A 60-year-old man will face court charged with animal cruelty, with police claiming he tied a kangaroo to the back of his car and dragged it 400m.

A man has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly seriously injuring a kangaroo after he tied it to his car and dragged it through the Snowy Mountains region.
On April 13, a woman walking along Millynn Rd, Bywong, discovered a severely injured kangaroo down an embankment that had a rope tied around its neck and severe lacerations to its rib and hip area.
The woman contacted an emergency wildlife rescue line, with a local rescue organisation picking up the kangaroo and taking it to Bungendore.
Police were notified of the issue at about 6.30pm – nearly an hour after the woman discovered it – and responded to an animal rescue organisation on Joe Rocks Rd, Bungendore.
Unfortunately, the kangaroos wounds were fatal and it died shortly before police arrived.
Officers attached to the Monaro Police District commenced an investigation and following inquiries, at about 8.30pm, a 60-year-old man attended Queanbeyan Police Station and was released, pending further inquiries.
On April 15, the same man attended North Sydney Police Station where he was issued with a court attendance notice for recklessly beat and cause prolonged suffering and commit an act of aggravated cruelty upon an animal.
Police will allege the man tied the kangaroo to the back of his car and dragged it from a property to the road, approximately 400 metres, while the animal was still alive.
He will appear in Queanbeyan Local Court on May 26.
