Aussie surfing legend Layne Beachley has scored yet another top gong, earning a Life Membership at the Australian Surfing Awards.
The seven-time world champion and former Surfing Australia chair will be inducted on Saturday at the Home of the Arts, on the Gold Coast.
The Life Membership of Surfing Australia accolade recognises a person who has committed service to surfing nationally.
Beachley, 52, began surfing at just four years old, riding on a foam board at Manly.
She now has her own ASP World Surfing Tour event titled the Beachley Classic, which has the richest prize money in women’s surfing.
Beachley said although it was an honour to receive the Surfing Australia Life Membership, she was far from done with her work in the surfing community.
“It is not something I ever imagined, certainly not something I ever set out to achieve,” she said.
“My main focus when it comes to my professional surfing life and my passion for surfing just comes from making a positive difference and leaving it in a better place than how I found it.”
