Kate Ceberano, Jon Stevens bring old mate John Farnham ‘into the room for a jam’

Noiseworks frontman Jon Stevens vows to ‘have a go’ at some of John Farnham’s greatest hits in his new tour and walk down memory lane with Kate Ceberano.

Jon Stevens, one of the greatest voices in Australian music, is waiting for the day he can hear his good mate John Farnham belt out a tune again.

“I’m sure he is singing around the house and it’s certainly great to see him healthy and getting on with his life so I truly hope we get to hear him sing again,” Stevens told The Daily Telegraph.

“There has to be a reason for it, he obviously doesn’t need to be running around sweating on stage, doing the hard yards but it will be great to hear him sing again.”

In the meantime the Noiseworks frontman is going to “try” his best at a couple of Farnham hits.

“I will have a go but it will never be the same, no one can ever be the same as him but I’ll have a go,” he said referring to his upcoming gigs with another best mate Kate Ceberano.

The pair decided to team up to sing their own greatest hits, some of Farnham’s classics and songs from the musical that changed the lives of all three.

“What we wanted to do was invite John back into the room,” Ceberano told The Daily Telegraph.

“Clearly we had a moment through performing together in Jesus Christ Superstar that none of us can forget very easily. It changed us all for different reasons,” she said.

“John was able to take himself seriously in that theatrical arena space he took everyone on that journey. He held nothing back.

“We are going to reinvigorate that magical time the three of us had for ourselves and bring him into the room,” she said.

“He is currently not out performing, but hopefully he will be one day so in the meantime we are bringing him into the jam.”

Farnham recently celebrated his 75th birthday but has rarely been seen in public since undergoing cancer surgery in August 2022.

“He knows we are all thinking of him,” Stevens said. “He’s a great mate.”

Ceberano said the great thing about Superstars Live, which will take in six states and the ACT with nine shows, is that “we will be on stage together the whole show, supporting each other, lots of live energy”.

“Being the 50th anniversary of Jesus Christ Superstar, it seemed like a great time to celebrate that magic time in our lives.”
