Hot weekend ahead for Sydney as low intensity heatwave declared

Analysis: Queensland to ‘cop a drenching’ in next 24 hours

We are in for another scorching Sydney summer weekend with a low intensity heatwave affecting much of the state, but the west will cop the brunt of it.

The Bureau of Meteorology says an east-moving ridge of high pressure will bring heat to NSW, with a top of 30C on Friday, 26C on Saturday and 28C on Sunday in the city.

It will be nearly 10 degrees hotter in the west on Friday, reaching 37C in Penrith, 35C in Campbelltown, 34C in Parramatta and 35C in Liverpool.

It will be cooler towards the coast with 26C expected in Bondi and 30C in Terrey Hills.

The UV index is predicted to hit an ‘extreme’ 11 with the Bureau recommending sun protection between 8.30am and 5.00pm across the weekend.
