As many as 12 homes have been destroyed and there are fears of even more property losses after devastating bushfires tore through a quiet suburb of the Central Coast and a peaceful north coast town. Meanwhile, four homes were lost at Bulahdelah on the state’s mid-north coast.

Dramatic video footage taken from boats in Brisbane Water on Saturday showed homes going up in flames at Koolewong – about halfway from Gosford to Woy Woy and squeezed between the bush and Brisbane Water.

More than 1000 fireys, 300 vehicles and nine aircraft battled the rages blazes.

Conditions have eased in the area throughout the night, with thunderstorms bringing light rain to the firegrounds.
