Expansion of Westmead’s Park Meadows by Uniting retirement village begins

The expansion of a western Sydney retirement village is under way, with 153 additional units, an indoor swimming pool and even something for visiting grandchildren planned. See the plans.

Work has begun on the stage two expansion of a western Sydney retirement village, where more recreation facilities are planned.

A recent sod-turning event at the Park Meadows by Uniting, opposite Parramatta Park, signalled the beginning of the major Westmead project that will take the number of independent living apartments to 223.

Set for completion in mid-2027, the upgrade will include 171 parking spaces, an indoor swimming pool, spacious gathering and relaxation areas including an activities green, village green, designated barbecue areas, a bowls and putting green, and alfresco dining areas.

The Caroline St facility houses a retirement living village residents and its aged care home.

Youngsters visiting their senior relatives and friends have also been included in the project, with a children’s playground among the revamp.

Uniting property and housing director Simon Furness said the development would address the needs of the growing number of seniors in Westmead and neighbouring suburbs, creating a welcoming community where every stage of life is supported with exceptional care and services.

“Uniting has been providing high-quality seniors’ accommodation and services to the Westmead community for over 50 years,’’ he said.

“This expansion of Park Meadows by Uniting means we can continue to provide a continuum of care for our local seniors that prioritises independence and wellbeing, alongside the security of staying close to those they know and love, even as care needs may change.”

Uniting head of property development Adrian Ciano said stage two was the final step in realising Uniting's vision for the Westmead community.

“The new development at Park Meadows will address the increasing demand for high-quality, contemporary accommodation for seniors in our local area,’’ he said.

“We continuously look for ways to enhance and expand villages such as Park Meadows, ensuring that our services provide for people well into the future.’’

Plans for the development were originally lodged with Parramatta Council in 2015 before winning approval in November last year when they went before a state planning panel.
