Dubbo police are appealing for help from the public after a woman was stabbed while she was holding an infant during a terrifying motel robbery.

Orana Mid-Western Police were told a 27-year-old woman was staying at a motel on Victoria St, Dubbo, when a man knocked on her door at about 9pm on Monday.

Police were then told the man – armed with a kitchen knife – took the woman’s mobile phone and handbag before attempting to leave.

When the woman, who was holding her 10-month-old baby at the time, tried to prevent the man from leaving, she was stabbed in the right thigh, police say.

The man left the scene in a white Ford Territory.

According to police, she then sought help from motel staff before being taken to Dubbo Base Hospital for treatment.

Police were told a second child was present at the time of the incident, though no injuries to either child were reported, a NSW Police spokesman said.

A crime scene was established and an investigation into the incident commenced, with police working to determine whether the incident was targeted.

The alleged offender is described as being aged around 30-years-old, of medium build, and dressed in all black.
