Police are hunting an arsonist after a vehicle was found engulfed in flames in Sydney’s west overnight.
Emergency services were called at 1am on Wednesday to a car park in Rydalmere, where they discovered an SUV on fire. Firefighters took about 20 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
While no injuries were reported, police believe the fire was deliberately lit.
Officers from Ryde Police Area Command have launched an investigation into the incident.
At this stage, the fire has not been linked to any other criminal activity, but inquiries are ongoing.
The Rydalmere blaze marks the third burnt-out vehicle discovered in Sydney in just two days.
On Monday night, professional MMA fighter Hayder Khudhair — known as the ‘Silent Assassin’ — was ambushed and shot while driving a truck through Sydney’s southwest.
He suffered serious gunshot wounds to his abdomen and arms and remains in Liverpool Hospital.
Shortly after the shooting, firefighters responded to two separate car fires located just four kilometres apart — one involving a black Lexus sedan on Dixmude Street in South Granville, and another on Boundary Road in Chester Hill.
However, there is no evidence to suggest the incidents are linked.
Authorities are urging anyone with information or dashcam footage from the area at the time of the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
