Police are treating the death of a man, who was found critically injured in a troubled inner-Newcastle unit block following reports of an assault, as suspicious.
The state’s homicide squad has been informed as Newcastle City detectives launch an investigation into the death of the 53-year-old inside the unit block on Darby St at Cooks Hill.
Police said emergency services were called to the unit block about 3.20am on Wednesday following reports of an assault.’
Police found the man inside a unit. He was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.
Police said they were treating his death as suspicious.
A crime scene has been established.
