Sydney’s underworld has exploded in the past three months amid tensions between the Alameddine crime clan and its former “muscle”, the KVT, and an escalation in the city’s “postcode wars”.

Premier Chris Minns has responded to the ongoing violence foreshadowing tougher bail rules for known crime figures, declaring the latest string of public crimes a “horrifying, violent chapter in the state’s history”.

It comes after Mr Minns said he was “concerned” by the court’s decision to grant Azari bail less than a month ago, despite police warning his release would cause “bloodshed on the streets”.

“Obviously I’m concerned about that decision. I mean, based on the last 24 hours I know a lot of people in the community would be very concerned about the decision made by the court,” Mr Minns said.

“The question is whether it was incorrect or an error was made in retrospect… I know the Attorney General is looking at the transcript as we speak.

“(But) I’m not announcing (tougher bail laws) today. What I am saying is the government’s shown a willingness in the past to listen to law enforcement about keeping the community safe…in the past, that’s been warranted, whether it’s been in relation to youth crime or domestic violence or knife related surveillance and detection in our community, we’ve taken the initiative there.”

Mr Minns also unleashed on the unknown perpetrators of the Auburn shooting, but held back on revealing new information he had received from police.

“I want to make it clear though that the task force that has been set up by NSW Police has all of the resources (they) need to smash this crime ring and arrest these animals, their disregard for human life, their disregard for the laws that we have in Australia is horrifying,” he said.

“It’s a public safety issue. I mean, there’s no doubt about it…this is a horrifying, violent chapter in the state’s history, and it needs to be met with the full force of the law.”

Following the latest incident, which has left three people fighting for life after they were shot outside a kebab shop at Auburn on Monday afternoon, we take a look back at the city’s recent spate of gunfire.
