Woman dies in Papunya car crash, becoming 43rd NT fatality for 2024

A woman has died following a horror crash involving two vehicles and up to 10 people, including five children, along a remote Northern Territory road. Read the latest.

Up to 10 people may have been involved in a road crash that killed a woman near Papunya on Friday afternoon.

A crash involving two vehicles about 65km from the Tanami Highway on the Newhaven access road was reported to police about 1.15pm.

Initial reports indicated up to 10 people may have been involved, including five children aged between five and 10 years-old.

An adult woman was declared dead at the scene when emergency services arrived.

All other occupants are receiving medical treatment for various injuries, none of which are believed to be life-threatening.

A crime scene has been established and investigations are ongoing.

Her death brings the lives lost on Territory roads so far in 2024 to 43 compared to just eight at this time last year.
