A man who’s resume has seen him work with Interpol is now taking the helm of an important Territory service during a “pivotal moment,” he says.
On Valentine’s Day, NT Fire and Emergency Services announced Wayne Snell as chief officer of the department.
Mr Snell said his appointment comes during a “pivotal moment” for the organisation “as it transitions into the NTFES stand-alone agency”.
“My focus will be on ensuring the safety of our communities, supporting our dedicated staff and volunteers, and strengthening our operational capabilities to respond effectively across the Territory,” he said.
Mr Snell takes the spot of Fleur O’Connor, who has been within the Territory’s emergency services since 2010.
Before taking the role, Mr Snell worked with both domestic and international policing agencies such as the Australian Federal Police and Interpol.
His qualifications span from forensic science to emergency management, according to a media release announcing his appointment.
NT Fire and Emergency Services commissioner Andrew Warton said he is pleased to welcome Mr Snell to the team.
