June 25, 2pm: A 48-year-old man has been arrested after what police alleged was a “despicable act in broad daylight”.
Police allege the man attempted to sexually assault a woman on Peel St in Darwin CBD on Saturday about 1.30pm.
Police say they believe the victim was not known to the alleged offender.
The man was arrested by Darwin general duties officers shortly after the report.
He has since been charged with attempted sexual intercourse without consent, aggravated assault and indecent touching or act and remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court August 20, 2025.
“This was a despicable act in broad daylight,” Detective Acting Sergeant Tanya Holliday said.
“I would like to commend the community for coming forward and reporting the incident.
“We continue to urge anyone with information to contact police on 131 444 — please quote reference number NTP2500063293.

Wulagi DV incident triggers massive police response
June 24, 2.30pm: A 27-year-old man was arrested in Wulagi on Monday afternoon after a domestic violence incident triggered a massive police response.
Police were first notified of the disturbance about 1.30pm when they received reports the man had allegedly smashed a vehicle window before threatening a woman believed to be his partner.
Multiple units, including general duties, Strike Force Trident, Traffic and ‘specialist members’ (believed to be Territory Response Group) were deployed in response, an NT Police spokesman said.
The NT News understands an initial report to police indicated a firearm may be involved, triggering such a significant response.
Police later determined this report was false and no firearm was located.
“An arrest plan was enacted resulting in the male being arrested without incident, and the victim and children involved being safely removed from the residence at the time,” the spokesman said.
Two alleged DUI drivers arrested at the same time across Darwin
June 23, 6.30am: Two drivers — both allegedly intoxicated — crashed at the same time in different Darwin suburbs early on Monday morning.
Northern Watch Commander Ronald Mummery said NT Police were alerted to the first crash about 12.45am when they received multiple reports a white Toyota 4WD had crashed into a traffic light in Wagaman.
Residents extracted a 42-year-old woman driver before police say she returned a positive roadside test for alcohol.
She was arrested and transported to RDH for monitoring, Sergeant Mummery said.
Within minutes of this incident, the triple-0 call centre received multiple reports a grey Toyota 4WD was involved in a crash in Ludmilla.
Sergeant Mummery said when police arrived they found that the vehicle had mounted the median strip, taken out part of a bus stop, then flipped onto its roof.
Local residents assisted police to locate the 29-year-old male driver — who police allege was also intoxicated.
Police say the driver tried to escape by jumping multiple residential fences before he was caught and arrested.
He was also taken to RDH for monitoring.
Charges for both allegedly intoxicated drivers are expected to be issued within the coming days.
