A Cullen Bay real estate agent has faced court for the first time after allegedly attacking Chief Minister Natasha Fyles with a “cream fresh pie” at the Nightcliff Markets last month.

Suzi Milgate appeared in the Darwin Local Court on Tuesday charged with aggravated assault and using a carriage service to harass following the incident on September 24.

The 56-year-old was greeted with a bouquet of flowers as she walked from court following the brief administrative hearing, saying “the Darwin community has spoken”.

“We tried to send an apology, unequivocally, an apology letter (to Ms Fyles), she wouldn’t accept it,” she told reporters outside the courthouse.

Inside, her lawyer Robert Welfare had successfully applied for the case to be adjourned to the directions hearing list on November 20.

Judge John Neill said Ms Milgate would be excused from appearing on that day but Mr Welfare said that was “not necessary”.

“She can come along,” he said.

A small gaggle of wellwishers was in court to support Ms Milgate, holding signs outside the building and saying afterwards “go Suzi” to which the estate agent replied “thank you”.

“Digital ID smart cities or the Voice won’t cure this problem #sackthemall,” read one placard.

Speaking to the NT News last month, Ms Milgate said her actions were a result of “frustration”, describing the incident as a “minor error”.

“It was just a cream pie out of frustration,” she said.

“A cream pie? For f— sakes. That’s not an assault, is a cream pie f—ing assault? And it’s fresh cream, how hard is fresh cream?”

Ms Fyles later described the incident as “unacceptable”.

“It was a fair whack to the face but I know what’s important to Territorians and that’s listening and getting back to work and I’m back at it today,” Ms Fyles said.
