A man who allegedly threatened to kill a witness in a domestic violence investigation spent 75 minutes hauled up in a suburban home during a military-style siege in Darwin.

Terrance Phillip Egan appeared in Darwin Local Court on Tuesday following his dramatic arrest in Parap on Monday afternoon.

For more than an hour Mr Egan remained in a unit on Drysdale St, Parap as the Police Negotiation Unit and the specialist Territory Response Group blocked the suburban street with an armoured vehicle and several marked cars.

After 75 minutes at 3.15pm, the 29-year-old walked out of the two-storey flat with his hands raised in the air, and was arrested without incident.

The 29-year-old was charged with breaching his domestic violence orders, attempting to pervert the course of justice, making threats against people involved in a criminal process and making threats to kill a person.

On Tuesday Mr Egan appeared before Judge Stephen Geary on both files, and was remanded back to custody.

His matter was adjourned until August 5.
